The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course\, designed and built on the Avoid\, Deny\, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004\, provides strategies\, guidance\, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events\, civilian response options\, medical issues\, and considerations for conducting drills. \n\n\n\nSafe City Program\n\nOfficer Sears will also explain the City of Auburn Hills Safe City program\, a comprehensive public safety and private sector partnership to ensure all businesses\, churches and schools are best prepared to respond to an emergency incident. Prior to taking his oath of office\, Officer Sears attended Michigan State University where he obtained dual bachelors of arts degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology with a minor in Spanish. He attended the Mid Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College where he graduated as a class lieutenant and earned awards in emergency vehicle operations\, academics and the highly prestigious coordinators award. Officer Sears has held roles as a patrol officer assigned to the midnight patrol platoons. He is a Field Training Officer\, Drug Recognition Expert Instructor\, Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor and a member of the Honor Guard and the Southern Oakland County Crash Investigation Team. In his current role he serves as the Community Engagement Officer for the department where he engages with businesses\, churches\, schools and residents as a liaison to the community. He is the department's accreditation manager helping to insure that the Auburn Hills Police Department provides the highest standards of professional law enforcement services as established by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police.
