Oakland Youth Orchestras announces Spring Auditions via zoom

ROCHESTER, MIApril 20, 2020 String, woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists, ages 7-18, who are interested in advancing their musical skills, are invited to audition for membership in a premier Detroit Metro youth orchestra--Oakland Youth Orchestras (OYO).

“OYO wants to ensure that we are taking into account everyone's potential circumstances as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. With that in mind, we are offering all auditions virtually over several weekends this Spring” said Joanne Walle, Executive Director..

Audition signup for the 2020-2021 season begins April 20th online at and extends through June 20, 2020. Merit and financial-need scholarships are available.

All Spring auditions will be offered through virtually via Zoom video call May 7-9 and May 14-16. For students who need addition time to prepare a third weekend will be offered - June 18-20.

The four orchestras that comprise OYO serve over 350 students in grades two through twelve from Oakland, Genesee, Macomb, Wayne, Sanilac, St. Clair and Lapeer counties.

All returning and prospective members must audition for placement into one of OYO’s four orchestras. Auditions assist conductors in placing each student at the appropriate skill level to provide a challenging musical experience within a supportive environment. About Oakland Youth Orchestras

The mission of OYO is to inspire student musicians by providing an exceptional orchestral experience to public, private and home schooled students in a premier orchestra program.

OYO facilitates student musicians to progress in their music abilities under the tutelage of highly qualified conductors with extensive performance and music education backgrounds.

OYO also fosters musical enrichment through 3 concerts with over 350 members. Additional opportunities include the chamber ensembles program, outreach recitals, solo performances and competitions.

Oakland Youth Orchestras has been educating and enriching youth through music since 1975. OYO is a four-tiered orchestra program (Studio String, String, Philharmonia and Symphony Orchestras) serving over 350 students in grades two through twelve.
