Based in Pontiac, MI, Zach Curtis' work has gained recognition across the US and Mexico. His self-defined "painterly realism" style combines technical skill with expressive flourishes, resulting in dynamic pieces that burst with color and energy. His preferred mediums are acrylics and spray paint, which allows him to work quickly and experiment with different techniques.
A favorite outdoor painting of Curtis' is a 60 ft. long mural along Pontiac's Riker Building parking garage. He honors MI's first black woman landowner and formerly enslaved, Elizabeth Denison Forth. In 1825, Forth purchased land from the founder of Pontiac, Stephen Mack. Past murals topics include Chadwick Boseman, found in Sacramento, CA, and Asian Girl in Flint, MI.
The Zach Curtis Art exhibition invites you to see the world through his eyes. From small to large, all the exhibited work will resonate with his artistry and unique vision.
About the Theatre
In the early days, the Pontiac area had 13 theatres, and now only the Strand remains. In 2016, it reopened after receiving a three-year, twenty-million-dollar renovation as the Flagstar Strand Theatre. The theatre campus includes a fantastic stage and auditorium with seating for nearly 900, an art gallery, a theatre lounge named Charlene's, a restaurant, and a pending film society.
The Flagstar Strand Theatre for the Performing Arts (as Encore Performing Arts Center) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
